In 1985, Joji Ota decided it was time to introduce his passion for Japanese food to the city of Long Beach. He and his wife, Machiko, chose the wonderful Bixby Knolls neighborhood to open their take out restaurant. It was a small humble space with only four tables, but a lot of heart.
The Japanese have always believed the bamboo plant to be a symbol of strength and longevity. Exposed to the harshest forces nature can muster bamboo will bend, but never break. It remains strong, year after year. Thus the name Bamboo Teri House was chosen in hopes that Joji’s restaurant would take on the same characteristics as its namesake.
Almost thirty years later, Bamboo Teri House is proud to have lived up to its name. Not much has changed (besides the larger dining room); it is still family owned and still the best Japanese taste in town!
